Nastassya's Story

Nastassya Saad in Sausalito
Standing proudly in front of Sausalito City Hall since I was 3.

Born and raised in Sausalito, I have spent my life serving the community that has given me so much. Today, I am the only lifelong resident serving on the Planning Commission, and if elected, I would be the only City Councilmember born and raised in Sausalito. My roots here run deep, and I am committed to protecting the character, history, and small-town spirit that make Sausalito so special.

My dedication to public service began at eight years old, volunteering with the Parks and Recreation Department at community events. As a teenager, I was honored to receive the City of Sausalito’s Lifetime Volunteer Award, a recognition that continues to inspire my commitment to giving back.

Growing up, I worked at 15 local businesses throughout town, experiences that connected me with generations of residents, business owners, and visitors while teaching me the value of hard work, accountability, and community.

My education in Politics at the University of California, Santa Cruz provided the foundation for my approach to public service. I studied the principles of democratic government, constitutional law, and public policy, but the most important lesson I learned was that effective leadership begins with listening. That lesson inspired me to serve my hometown. I first served on Sausalito’s Historic Preservation Commission, where I helped preserve our town’s unique character. For the past six years, I have served on the Planning Commission, including the last two as Chair. Combining the principles I learned through my education with years of hands-on public service has shaped my approach to leadership, and I strive to approach every decision with integrity, thoughtful consideration, balance, and respect for the public’s voice.

Throughout my career and public service, I have been guided by a simple philosophy: lead with integrity and let the facts drive the decision. I believe good government is built on thoughtful consideration of every perspective, respectful dialogue, and balanced decision-making rather than political agendas. I bring a no-nonsense approach and believe that collaboration—not division—produces the best outcomes for our community. My commitment has always been to serve the people of Sausalito with honesty, transparency, and common sense.

Why I’m Running

A note to my Sausalito neighbors

Throughout every stage of my life—from volunteering as a child and working in local businesses to serving on City commissions—I have remained deeply connected to Sausalito. I understand our history because I have lived it, and I understand our challenges because I have spent years working alongside residents, business owners, City staff, and fellow commissioners to find thoughtful, balanced solutions.

I believe Sausalito deserves leadership that values conservative, thoughtful growth, fiscal responsibility, historic preservation, environmental stewardship, and protecting our community from overdevelopment while responsibly meeting our legal obligations.

As someone who has spent a lifetime volunteering and serving this community—and who would be the only lifelong resident on the City Council if elected—I will always be a voice for the people who call Sausalito home. I will advocate for responsible decision-making with honesty, transparency and integrity.

My goal is simple: to leave Sausalito stronger than I found it, honor its history, thoughtfully prepare for its future, and continue the lifelong commitment to service that began as an eight-year-old volunteer.

Thank you.

"I think this woman is one of the best and can do an incredible job...I think it is so important to get her on the City Council. It's a tough one because a lot of people don't know her but if you get to know her, she's one hell of a good person and would be a great City Council person."
